Ford have invested a lot of time and money into building some new “hot hatches” in recent years. One of the latest models to join the stable is the Fiesta ST. Made from 2012 onwards, the ST is a car that is sporty, fun models to drive.
Sure, it might not have Ferrari-like performance under the hood. But when it comes to fun motoring, it’s not always about horsepower! Of course, that’s not to say the Fiesta ST doesn’t come with a decent motor under the hood.
Are you thinking of buying something fast and fun to drive? If so, here are a few reasons why the Fiesta ST could be the dream car you’ve been waiting for!
Under The Hood
When you do a search for new vehicles, one of the things you look at on the spec list is the engine performance. How powerful is it? What are its 0-60 mph times and top speeds? What are its CO2 emissions? How good is the gas mileage? And so forth.
The Ford Fiesta ST comes with just one engine choice. But it’s a good one! You get a 1.6-liter turbocharged EcoBoost motor that delivers an impressive 180 brake horsepower. It’ll get you to 60 mph from a standing start in just 6.9 seconds. Oh, and it has a top speed of 137 mph.
Given that the car has an EcoBoost engine, performance isn’t the only thing that will impress you. It boasts combined gas mileage figures of 47 mpg! Engine emissions are also low for this type of engine at 138 g/km.
Ford’s range of EcoBoost engines offers decent performance, fuel economy and low carbon emissions. With the latest-generation Fiesta ST, that’s a guaranteed fact. The Detroit car maker say that the turbos used on their EcoBoost engines spin faster than those on Formula One cars! That’s something you can brag about to your buddies!
Despite its compact size, it’s also an option for those with families. After all; just because you have a family doesn’t mean you can’t drive them around in a hot hatch! If you have more than one child, though, you might want to consider another hot hatch instead: the Focus RS.
On The Road
The Fiesta ST only weighs just over a ton, and that means it’s quite agile on the road! Combined with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost motor, the ST is what you might call a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It’s one of those cars that will surprise anyone trying to out-gun you on the open road.
As a Fiesta ST owner, you can enjoy benefiting from a wealth of technology to make your car handle well on the road. Of particular importance is the traction control system. It offers three different settings: normal, sports and off.
By default, the system is set to normal. For more spirited driving, tap the ESP button once for sports mode, Doing so twice will disable it altogether, but you wouldn’t want to do that unless you’re an expert driver.
So, would I recommend the Fiesta ST to you? Absolutely!
